HAPPY INTERNATIONAL GIRLS DAY!!

GIRL POWER
DID YOU KNOW?
International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day declared by the
United Nations? It is also called the Day of the Girl and the International Day of the Girl. October 11, 2012, was the first Day of the Girl. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls
worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as right to education/access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and early marriages. The celebration of the day also “reflects the successful emergence of girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development policy, programming, campaigning and research.
In this day and age a girl child is far more informed than in 2012 thanks to Technology. looking at just a few of the benefits of ICT to the girl child you can clearly note that we are headed somewhere with the help of the ICT resources in the country.
ICT has been a major element in a girl’s personal growth and development, useful for improving studies, staying informed and earning a living. It reduces their sense of isolation, help acquire new skills, actively participate in national and global dialogues,
learn about taboo subjects (such as reproductive health and HIV), and makes them feel safer and more in touch with family and friends, and strengthens self-esteem. ICT helps a girl to improve her ability to express herself, speak in public, and engage with adults and other decision makers to negotiate her needs and rights.
